CNA Training Classes

If you are beginning your CNA classes it is normal to be a little nervous. Certified Nursing Assistant classes are a lot different than a regular class. But don’t worry. This article will give you a better idea of what to expect.

The classroom portion of your CNA course is where you learn more about the human body and how it works. You will learn the importance of nutrition and hydration. This course will also teach you communication skills. This is very important because you will be communicating with nurses, doctors, family members and a variety of patients. Good communication is a must for your success.

Labs and hands on training are the core of the nursing assistant class. In the lab, you will be shown how to perform specific skills such as making beds, emptying catheters, turning patients and doing baths. You must perform these skills adequately for your instructor before you can pass the lab portion of the class. In some programs, lab time will also be spent teaching CPR. All nursing assistants should be certified in basic life support.

After you have demonstrated that you can safely perform the necessary skills in the lab, then you will move on to the actual hands on portion of the CNA classes. You will go in a group to a healthcare facility and work under the supervision of your instructor. This is a very important part of your education because you will be dealing with real people of all ages and mental capacities. This is where you will know if you are really cut out to do this type of work.

When you begin your CNA classes, just remember you are not in it alone. Everyone else in your class is just as nervous as you are. Pay close attention to your instructor and ask questions if you do not understand. You can become a Certified Nursing Assistant with some time and effort.
